Your journey

Event in Lithuania

Lithuania fascinates with its endless sandy beaches, numerous national parks and a history in which you always come across German traces.

However, the country is not as easy to reach as Poland or the Czech Republic. If you don’t want to fly, you can take a ferry. Then let yourself be carried away by the natural wonders of Lithuania! The Baltic Sea coast with the Curonian Spit, the highest shifting dunes in the Baltic Sea and the Hanseatic cities will certainly inspire you.

You can combine Lithuania with the other Baltic countries to create an exciting hiking or cycling trip. In conjunction with Poland (Wigierski National Park), however, the result is a varied study trip with an active character.

Litauen 1

Travel example Lithuania-Poland

Through the kingdom of the moose or high on the dunes, on coastal paths or along the Curonian Lagoon: If you combine the national parks (= NP) of Lithuania with those in northeastern Poland, the result is a uniquely “green” travel route. From the canoe we look for moose in the Biebrza National Park, hike through lake landscapes and climb the highest dunes on the Baltic Sea. Whether Trakai-NP with its water castle or the wide beaches of the Curonian Spit – every day we are amazed at the diversity of landscapes in this piece of earth.

Your travel

Country combination Lithuania-Poland

Day 1, Welcome to Vilnius

Travel to Vilnius yourself and transfer to our hotel.

Day 2, Vilnius Old Town and Trakai NP

Church after church, narrow cobblestone streets and baroque façade splendor: Vilnius (UNESCO World Heritage Site) is also called the “Rome of the East”. After the sightseeing, we drive to Trakai National Park and walk along the shore of Lake Galvė to the Trakai Water Castle.

3rd day, wooden villages and the meanders of the Grūda

We drive in the southeastern corner of the country to Dzukija NP on the Belarusian border. We hike through the idyllic villages of Margionys and Kapiniskes, original wooden houses line the quiet village streets. Then drive to the most famous health resort in Lithuania: Druskininkai.

Day 4, The lake landscape in Wigierski NP

We drive across the Lithuanian-Polish border to Lake Wigry, one of the most beautiful lakes in Poland. A dirt road leads us through the gently undulating landscape to a viewing hill. Now we walk from bay to bay and enjoy wonderful views of the lake. Transfer to Augustów.

5th day, swamps and wild river landscape

Drive to Biebrza NP. This river and swamp landscape is one of the wildest regions in Poland, and the moose population now exceeds 1,400! We glide through the unique river scenery in a canoe. Return transfer to the hotel and free time in the afternoon.

Day 6, A canoe tour in a natural paradise

The former Camaldolese monastery, which we visit, is beautifully situated on a peninsula. Then we head back into the wilderness: with its enchanted landscape, the Czarna Hańcza river is one of the most beautiful in Poland. We explore this natural paradise by canoe (it is possible to replace the kayak tours with easy hikes). Then continue to Kaunas.

7th day, along the Memel

After a walk through the old town of Kaunas, we drive to Panemunė Castle, which is picturesquely located on the banks of the Memel. In the afternoon we reach our rustic hotel in the middle of the Memel Delta. Pure idyll!

Day 8, Memel Delta and Curonian Spit

On a short hike we get to know the Memel Delta, which is considered one of the most important bird breeding areas in Europe. Then we chug through the Curonian Lagoon on a ferry and reach Nida, probably the most famous holiday resort on the Curonian Spit, in the afternoon.

9th day, The most beautiful dune landscapes

The next highlight of the trip: Immediately after breakfast we set off for the “Sahara of the Baltics” – that’s what the dunes of Nida are also called. We climb the Parnidis dune, which at 52 m is considered one of the highest in Europe. The view of the Curonian Spit and the open Baltic Sea is simply wonderful!

Day 10, Along the Curonian Spit

Less known and just as beautiful is the hiking trail to Preil, which runs along the coast and gives us magnificent views of the Curonian Lagoon. Then transfer to Klaipėda and visit the old town.

11th day, say goodbye
